Main Characters 1

Commander John Crichton (human) is the central character of the Farscape story. He's an astronaut and scientist (I found the 'scientist' bit difficult to believe too). He goes on an IASA mission to attmept to prove his sling shot theory (the thory that if a ship could be made to use the Earths atmosphere and gravity to increase acceleration the ship would not only break Earth’s orbit, but increase speed to such an extent that it would be able to reach other planets and even other stars). During this mission a wormhole appears, possibly caused by a combination of the maneuver he is trying and solar conditions. He inadvertently flies down the wormhole whilst in the Farscape module (the name of the one-man craft he is in orbit in), emerging light years from Earth and straight into a battle & a devastating accident. He is brought aboard a ship called Moya

His theoretical knowledge and his original Earth orbit mission grabbed the attention of a race called the Ancients (yes, they get everywhere) who give him a valuable gift - the knowledge of wormholes. Whilst initially he is targetted by a Peacekeeper Captain wanting revenge, the valuable gift the Ancients gave him brings him to the attention of yet another Peacekeeper authority figure and thus begins one of the best and longest stories in the history of Sci Fi and the hunt and chase all over the galaxy for Crichton. Over the life of Farscape we follow Crichton through love, death, pain, torture, rape and success.

Officer Aeryn Sun, Special Peacekeeper Commando, Ikarian Company, Plyzar Regiment.

She is the character that kept me and many other watching Farscape (the eye candy for us women may have been the Crichton character, but we all wanted to be Aeryn Sun). She is a Sebacean and part of military force named the Peacekeepers, self imposed law enforcers of the galaxy. Peacekeepers are not well liked. They follow orders and they are strictly regimented. Aeryn Sun is a pilot, her favoured ship is a Prowler. She ends up on Moya after being declared 'irreversibly contaminated' by her superior officer Crais. She is an excellent military strategist and will take on anyone (and beat them) in a fight.

She is the daughter of a rebellious mother and its this part of her that leads her to eventually integrate with the crew, form close bonds with them all & reject her former life. She is also the centre of the rollercoaster love story with John Crichton - which is in my opinion, the main storyline of Farscape, more so than the wormhole knowledge. The will they, won't they and all the in-betweens (including a few tearjerker episodes) will get you hooked. She is definitely my favourite character of Farscape.
